The position of Senior Legal Counsel has become available, offering a remarkable opportunity to be part of a company with a longstanding reputation in the energy sector, particularly in offshore operations spanning over five decades.

We are seeking applications from Commercial lawyers who possess substantial experience in the UK Energy industry, particularly in offshore/EPCI contract negotiation.

Even candidates who meet the essential qualifications but are not yet functioning at this level will be taken into consideration.

This role is a staff position, and applicants should be prepared to work from our Westhill, Aberdeen office.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide practical, commercially-oriented legal guidance to our UK, Canadian, and Caspian oil and gas operations with a significant degree of independence in a supportive environment. Your daily responsibilities will primarily focus on tendering activities, including:
  • Managing a designated group of clients or regions autonomously.
  • Collaborating with tender managers to formulate effective contractual and negotiation strategies for various tenders and project types.
  • Evaluating and qualifying contract terms in prospective clients' invitations to tender, in conjunction with the relevant tender manager, and participating in client negotiations.
  • Working alongside tender managers to provide recommendations to senior management and obtaining necessary approvals.
  • Contributing to the Legal Team's strategy and objectives as a senior member.
  • Advising the contracts department, supply chain, and project teams on contractual language and risk mitigation.
  • Drafting and reviewing various legal agreements, including confidentiality agreements, mutual hold harmless agreements, parent company guarantees, memorandums of understanding, pre-bid agreements, and cooperation agreements.
  • Offering compliance advice and actively participating in client and supplier due diligence.
  • Supporting internal service providers, including delivering training to other departments.
Candidate Profile

We are looking for individuals who meet the following criteria:
  • Fully qualified Commercial lawyer (preferably with UK qualifications).
  • Relevant in-house experience within the UK Energy sector.
  • Strong ability to assess contractual risks from a practical and commercial standpoint.
  • Extensive experience in reviewing, negotiating, and advising on offshore industry contracts, especially EPCI negotiations.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build strong collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrated credibility and professionalism, maintaining the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Proactive and self-sufficient, with the capability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills, adept at managing multiple competing deadlines.
