This role is a permanent staff position, and applicants must be prepared to work from our Westhill, Aberdeen office.

Role Overview:

The primary responsibility is to deliver practical, commercially-oriented legal counsel to the UK, Canadian, and Caspian oil and gas sectors with a high degree of independence, all within a supportive framework. The role will mainly involve supporting tendering processes on a daily basis, which includes risk assessment, contract review and negotiation, and providing legal guidance to various departments on diverse issues.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage a designated group of clients or a specific region independently. Collaborate with tender managers to formulate effective contractual and negotiation strategies for each tender and project type. Evaluate and clarify contract terms in potential clients' invitations to tender, in conjunction with the relevant tender manager, and participate in client negotiations. Work alongside tender managers to create and present recommendations to senior management, seeking necessary approvals. As a senior member of the Legal Team, contribute to the formulation and execution of the team's strategic objectives. Provide guidance to the contracts department, supply chain, and project teams on contractual language and risk management, as well as advise on contract interpretation. Draft and review various legal agreements, including confidentiality agreements, mutual indemnity agreements, parent company guarantees, memoranda of understanding, pre-bid agreements, and cooperation agreements. Offer compliance advice, playing an active role in client and supplier due diligence processes. Support various internal service providers, including conducting training sessions for other departments.

Candidate Profile:

Fully qualified Commercial lawyer (preferably with UK qualifications). Relevant in-house experience within the UK Energy sector. Strong capability to assess contractual risks from a practical and commercial standpoint. Extensive experience in reviewing, negotiating, and advising on contracts within the offshore industry, particularly in EPCI negotiations. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to foster strong collaborative relationships. Demonstrates professionalism and integrity, maintaining confidentiality at all times. Shows initiative and the ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with team members and key stakeholders. Excellent organizational skills, adept at managing multiple competing deadlines.
