Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team in the field of avian pathogen control. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in a BBSRC Follow on Fund project aimed at applying innovative technologies for improved control of the gammacoronavirus infectious bronchitis virus (IBV).

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research in the field of coronavirus reverse genetics to generate and characterize vaccine candidates.
  • Utilize tissue culture, organ cultures, virology techniques, and molecular virology techniques to investigate the pathogenicity and protective ability of rIBVs.
  • Collaborate with project partners to communicate progress and data through presentations and scientific meetings.
  • Disseminate results through writing high-quality peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Assist with lab management, including ordering, equipment maintenance, and sample inventory.
  • Contribute to the overall research group by taking responsibility for daily laboratory housekeeping, ensuring safe work practices, and developing documentation for health, safety, and biosecurity.
Requirements
  • Significant relevant laboratory bench experience in a recognized R&D environment, especially in infectious disease.
  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant branch of biosciences.
  • Experience of working with animals in a research environment.
  • Computer literacy with a good knowledge of different computer programs and experience in data presentation and statistical analyses.
  • Evidence of networking skills and ability to build effective collaborative relationships.
  • Evidence of experience and vision to carry out scientific research in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Experience in working with IBV and/or coronavirus reverse genetics.
