The Pirbright Institute
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our team at The Pirbright Institute. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out an experimental programme to understand, predict, detect, and respond to viral disease outbreaks.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews to support research projects
- Develop and optimize laboratory assays to assess immune responses to infection and vaccination
- Work in high containment animal facilities to support in vivo cattle LSDV vaccination and infection studies
- Characterize immune responses to LSDV following vaccination and/or infection using existing and novel methodologies
- Communicate project progress to project PIs and stakeholders
- Present data at national and international conferences and drive the production of high-quality, peer-reviewed publications
Requirements
- PhD in virology, immunology, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and knowledge of veterinary virology and/or immunology
- Experience in molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, recombinant protein production, and molecular diagnostics
- Experience in immunological and cellular techniques, such as ELISA, serum neutralization test, PBMC isolation, intracellular cytokine staining, cell culture, and T cell recall assays
- Demonstrated working experience in assay development and test validation
