Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Apprenticeship Technician to join our team at HITACHI RAIL LIMITED. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for undertaking overhaul, modification, corrective and preventative maintenance, servicing, complex fault finding and repair on our fleet of Class 800 & 802 rolling stock.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform operations pre-sale activities in preparation for final train commissioning, testing and acceptance by the customer.
- Support Great Western and East Coast Main Line train delivery, testing and commissioning teams in the UK and in Japan.
- Perform the "safety of the line" inspections prior to commencement of nightly/daily testing and ensure this is recorded in the Maintenance Management System.
- Undertake the testing maintenance regime at North Pole or any other testing location as required without impacting operational test running.
- Perform fault finding and repair of Hitachi rolling stock assets incorporating best practice and lessons learnt from the established Class 395 maintenance team at Ashford.
- Undertake depot special tools initial training and competency assessment including depot protection systems, bogie drop equipment, fire alarm, lifting equipment, and train wash.
- Support the continued development of the SAP maintenance management system (MMS).
- Ensure all materials removed from the store are recorded in SAP.
- Development of the Maintenance Manual – Testing of new maintenance documents at the train, providing feedback for potential improvements.
- Fleet Delivery – Support the Service Delivery Manager in ensuring the agreed number of trains are made available for service.
- Must be prepared to travel and overnight away from base location for short periods to support train commissioning, testing, and specialist training.
- Must undertake training for depot train driving/assessment and pass as competent.
- Manual Handling, COSHH, working at height, Powered plant and tools – air / 110v experience.
- Experience of working a 24/7 shift roster in a modern rolling stock maintenance depot environment.
- Rolling stock test, approvals, and commissioning experience preferably gained from a previous modern rolling stock fleet introduction.
- Extensive experience of modern maintenance management systems (MMS) and associated reliability and availability trend analysis.
- Ability to investigate complex electrical and mechanical faults and write detailed reports.
- Served apprenticeship with mechanical and electrical disciplines.
- Engineering based NVQ level 3.
- Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.
- Reading electrical, pneumatic, mechanical schematics and drawings.
- Train driving, Fire warden, First Aider.
- Powered plant and tools – bogie drop, cranes, air systems / 110v tools.
- Train driving assessment and licence.
