Position Overview
The NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire Integrated Care Board is seeking a dedicated safeguarding nurse to join our collaborative Safeguarding Team. This role is essential in ensuring that clinical practices related to safeguarding align with both national and local policies. The successful candidate will also play a key role in facilitating the learning and development of staff across HWICB, Primary Care, GP practices, and local Safeguarding Boards/Safeguarding Partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Designate Nurse for Safeguarding (All Ages Integrated), the Safeguarding Nurse Specialist will engage in various activities to ensure that the Herefordshire and Worcestershire ICB fulfills its safeguarding obligations to the community.
This role involves active participation in Serious Case Reviews (SCR), Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SAR), and Domestic Homicide Review processes, as well as addressing serious untoward incidents or other high-risk situations where safeguarding issues arise. Responsibilities include reviewing the involvement of primary care and Continuing Health Care (CHC), aiding in the dissemination of findings, and implementing recommendations related to primary care and CHC.

Job Duties
The Safeguarding Nurse Specialist will closely collaborate with the Deputy Designated Nurse for Safeguarding, Designated Nurse and Doctor, Deputy Designated Nurses, Lead professionals for Safeguarding Adults, and the NHSE (Midlands and West) Lead for Safeguarding to ensure that statutory safeguarding duties are effectively implemented across General Practice, NHS Provider Organizations, and other services commissioned by the HWICB.
As a vital member of the ICB Safeguarding and Quality Teams, the Safeguarding Nurse Specialist will liaise with professional leads from various agencies, including Police, Education, and Social Care, to fulfill statutory safeguarding responsibilities and support NHS Provider Organizations (including General Practices) in meeting their obligations.
The role also involves working in partnership with the ICBs and NHSE to provide guidance and support to GPs and their staff regarding safeguarding matters. Additionally, the Safeguarding Nurse Specialist will collaborate with the Deputy Designated Nurse for Safeguarding, Designated Nurses, Doctors, and Lead professionals for Safeguarding Adults to deliver or facilitate learning and development for Practice Leads and GPs in their safeguarding roles, promoting best practices within General Practice.
