We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join our team at ETS Egis Transport Solutions. As a key member of our civil engineering team, you will be responsible for leading and managing complex civil engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage civil engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring they meet the client's requirements and are delivered to the highest quality standards.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with project teams, clients, and stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Act as the nominated Designated Project Engineer (DPE), Contractor's Engineering Manager (CEM), or Contractor's Responsible Engineer Design (CRE-D) for civil/structural engineering design, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

  • Prepare and manage civil/structural engineering design drawings, calculations, reports, and supporting documentation to Network Rail standards/building regulations.

  • Coordinate and manage engineering activities to ensure civil/structural schemes are affordable, meet programme requirements, and are delivered in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

  • Manage resources, junior engineers, and CAD technicians to complete deliverables, ensuring effective project management and team leadership.

  • Monitor projects to ensure they are engineered to the standards and specification of the client, ensuring quality and compliance.

  • Implement systems and procedures to maintain a cost-effective, high-quality, safe, and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning, and other technical activities on relevant projects.

  • Liaise with regulators and others as appropriate, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.

  • Support the CEM in the preparation of quantified and qualitative risk assessments and Common Safety Method HAZID/HAZOP analysis for allocated projects, ensuring effective risk management.

  • Identify and share best practice across various project teams, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Support the growth of the Civil Engineering team, recruitment of technical staff, and manage the mentoring of junior engineers, ensuring effective talent development and succession planning.

Requirements

  • DPE/CEM/CRE-D experience, with a strong track record of delivering complex civil engineering projects.

  • Professional Engineer Registration status with the Engineering Council (UK) and registration with an appropriate professional institution.

  • Technical qualifications to degree level in a relevant subject (BEng/MEng).

  • Project and team-running experience in a UK consultancy, client, or contractor organization.

  • Excellent understanding of Eurocode, Network Rail, and associated rail standards, and related regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR).

  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to engage, negotiate, and manage key stakeholders and suppliers.

  • Excellent engineering, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • CITB CSCS scheme.

Desirable

  • Understanding of interdisciplinary design within a rail environment.

  • An appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works, including low-carbon design.

  • IT competence in remote working and facilitation of digital workshops.

  • Knowledge of quality assurance.

  • PTS AC/DC.
