Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electron Microscope Technician to join our dedicated team at the University of Cambridge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the optimal performance of Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEMs) and their ancillary equipment.
  • Deliver comprehensive training and support to a diverse user base, including PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and external users.
  • Work collaboratively with the WEMS team to support the overall objectives of the facility.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Hands-on technical support for TEM users to deliver high-quality research output.
  • Manage and deliver training for new users, ensuring safe and effective operation of TEMs and related equipment.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot TEM instruments and ancillary equipment.
  • Manage laboratory consumables and equipment stocks to ensure smooth operation of the facility.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement safety protocols, including risk assessments and X-ray safety.
Requirements
  • A degree in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience in the operation and maintenance of electron microscopes, particularly TEMs.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with precision and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide clear and effective training to users.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations in a laboratory environment.
