Position Overview

As a part-time Mandarin Language Specialist, you will engage flexibly to leverage your linguistic and cultural knowledge within our organization. This role is ideal for individuals who are enthusiastic about language and fostering the development of others, as you will be responsible for providing language instruction and guidance to less experienced Language Professionals.

Your expertise in Mandarin language and culture will be instrumental in creating training and evaluation materials, as well as translating and transcribing content to enhance our language technology initiatives.

Role Responsibilities

You will collaborate within a supportive and vibrant community of Language Professionals who share your enthusiasm for Mandarin. In this distinctive linguistic environment, you will undertake individual projects while also training fellow linguists, ensuring ample opportunities for interaction and knowledge exchange. Your mentorship will significantly contribute to improving our language capabilities in alignment with national security objectives, and your expertise will be recognized and valued.

This position offers flexibility; however, you will be expected to conduct your language coaching duties on-site during standard office hours. There may also be opportunities for remote work, particularly when preparing instructional materials, which can be done outside of regular office hours based on your preference. Occasional travel may be required.

Candidate Profile

Fluency in Mandarin, both spoken and written, is essential, alongside proficiency in English. While specific professional qualifications are not mandatory, prior experience in teaching, mentoring, or training within a language-focused context is advantageous. This role could complement other professional commitments.

We seek individuals who are supportive and encouraging, with a genuine passion for language. Attention to detail is crucial, as you will provide timely and constructive feedback to aid your colleagues' ongoing language development. Proficiency in IT is expected, along with a willingness to learn how to independently manage language technology projects.

To be eligible for this position, candidates must be British citizens or hold dual British nationality. A certain level of security clearance, known as SC+ (Enhanced Security Check), is required. This process involves completing a detailed questionnaire and participating in an interview with a vetting officer, who will engage in a thorough and respectful discussion regarding your personal background and experiences to determine the appropriateness of holding SC+ clearance.

Compensation and Benefits
