Job Overview

The Surgical department at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a Band 6 Registered General Nurse (RGN) to assume the role of Surgical Operations Coordinator. This is a full-time, permanent position that involves working across multiple wards to ensure that all operational escalations are effectively managed, facilitating a smooth patient journey through the healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will possess the necessary nursing expertise and leadership capabilities to lead in problem-solving, communication, and support for ward discharge coordinators and lead nurses. The aim is to ensure that any delays in patient discharge are addressed promptly and efficiently.

Responsibilities include optimizing hospital bed usage and minimizing patient length of stay by ensuring safe and timely transfers or discharges to the most suitable environments. This role will involve acting as the escalation lead for routine delays in patient pathways, including but not limited to scheduling EEGs, CT scans, X-rays, and electronic discharge notes.

The Surgical Operations Coordinator will initiate and facilitate daily meetings with ward discharge coordinators and nursing staff to assess and act on required treatment plans and escalations. Attendance at routine and emergency bed meetings is essential to provide feedback on escalations and to liaise with nursing leadership during safety briefings.

The individual will also be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timely updates of all discharge information within the CERNER system, contributing to the integrity of discharge audits.

Collaboration and Communication

The role requires confidence in working across various divisions and departments, with a proven ability to engage in and lead challenging discussions with multidisciplinary team members.
