Role Description
The Science Team is instrumental in providing access to credible scientific guidance and innovative research that informs policy development and the enforcement of product safety regulations across various sectors, including toys, cosmetics, and the emerging area of construction products. We collaborate closely with other evidence teams specializing in engineering, research, analysis, and testing. Our multidisciplinary team encompasses expertise in analytical chemistry, materials science, bioscience, and toxicology. Additionally, we oversee chemical risk assessment guidance and facilitate access to independent scientific experts in the field of chemicals and materials, working collaboratively to deliver effective research and testing grounded in analytical chemistry.

This role presents a unique opportunity to optimize our research management processes within the Department, while also cultivating relationships with potential stakeholders who can partner with us in our regulatory endeavors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Foster collaborative relationships within the Department, across government entities, industry stakeholders, and academic institutions to enhance the robustness of scientific and evidence outputs.
- Oversee and manage research initiatives through the Research Collaboration Network.
- Lead governance efforts related to the Register of Specialists, focusing on areas such as Paediatrics and Child Health, as well as the development of a Biology Register of Specialists.
- Contribute to our science capabilities workstream, engaging with the Chief Scientific Adviser’s Office and coordinating incident preparedness efforts.
Collaboration is essential in this role, as it involves working closely with various teams within the Department to provide leadership and support for their scientific needs. Your expertise will be crucial in establishing processes that meet evidence requirements.
You will also represent the Department at internal and external meetings with key partners, including industry associations, standards bodies, and academic institutions.
