About the Role

The National Physical Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Science Strategist to join our team. As a key member of our Environment team, you will play a crucial role in identifying and developing our Environment strategy, engaging stakeholders, and supporting the delivery of impactful science.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of strategic research projects that provide new insights to strategy, business development, or science research, including scoping, desktop research, and synthesizing conclusions and recommendations.
  • Conduct strategic analytical desk research to pull together policy, market, high-level technical, and scientific inputs, identifying new insights and challenges relevant to NPL measurement science.
  • Develop relationships and raise the profile of NPL in the Environment arena through content-driven engagement with external stakeholders, liaising with marketing to provide knowledge and content for external websites, brochures, and conferences.
  • Support Strategic Business Development managers for knowledge and analytical content needs, particularly in new funding streams and opportunities to NPL, and support opportunity realization where possible.
  • Support the Head of Challenge in the development and refinement of the challenge strategy.
  • Taking reasonable duty of care for Health & Safety.

  • Commercial/business knowledge and mindset.
  • Leadership skills and team player, with the ability to lead a project, work with stakeholders with different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written, with experience in producing reports, papers, and other project-related written delivery work.
  • A degree in science is strongly preferred, and financial skills are also preferred.
