About the Role
The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Science Strategist to join their team. As a key member of the Environment team, you will play a crucial role in identifying and developing the Environment strategy, working closely with scientists to engage stakeholders, identify new science opportunities, build scientific capabilities, and support the delivery of impactful science.
Purpose of the Role
- Conduct strategic analytical research to support the further development of the Environment strategy and/or programmes, focusing on specific topics, sectors, or industries to understand challenges and identify measurement needs that can be addressed through NPL science.
- Engage with stakeholders to develop NPL points-of-view and positions, involving literature searches and external interactions/conferences in new areas to identify future research or business development potential for NPL.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in science, with excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as commercial/business knowledge and leadership skills. You will be able to work effectively in a team, communicate complex ideas clearly, and produce high-quality written reports and papers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of strategic research projects, scoping, conducting desktop research, engaging with stakeholders, and synthesizing conclusions and recommendations.
- Conduct strategic analytical desk research to identify new insights and challenges relevant to NPL measurement science, and develop relationships with external stakeholders to raise the profile of NPL in the Environment arena.
- Support Strategic Business Development managers with knowledge and analytical content needs, particularly in new funding streams and opportunities to NPL.
