Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring clean, safe, and secure school facilities, including buildings and grounds;
- Performing cleaning, maintenance tasks, routine upkeep, and minor repairs;
- Overseeing school cleaning personnel;
- Promoting health and safety standards throughout the institution;
- Managing porterage duties, such as relocating furniture and equipment;
- Maintaining the overall condition of school premises, furniture, and fixtures, while reporting any issues to the Head Teacher;
- Executing small repairs and DIY projects;
- Coordinating larger repairs and obtaining estimates from contractors;
- Conducting daily cleaning and additional tasks, such as litter collection and waste disposal;
- Responding to emergency cleaning needs, including gritting and spill cleanup;
- Organizing an annual deep clean of classrooms, staff areas, kitchens, dining spaces, and other frequently used areas;
- Managing the upkeep of cleaning tools and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels;
- Maintaining the security of the school premises as the primary key holder;
- Verifying that all windows, doors, and gates are secured at the end of the school day, lights are turned off, and gas and electrical appliances are deactivated;
- Setting security alarm systems, reporting potential security breaches, and responding to alarms or other call-outs as per established procedures;
- Conducting regular inspections of CCTV and alarm systems, locks, fire safety equipment, security gates, and perimeter fencing, ensuring necessary repairs are executed;
- Performing and documenting regular health and safety inspections, including legionella risk assessments, play equipment checks, safety equipment evaluations, and identifying hazards on school premises, reporting any concerns to the Head Teacher;
- Ensuring safe access to the school during adverse weather conditions.
Qualifications
- Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools;
- Prior experience in a caretaking role within an educational setting;
- Experience in building maintenance and security, including alarm systems;
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations;
- Basic DIY skills;
- Effective interpersonal skills to represent the school's interests when interacting with contractors and visitors;
- Proficient literacy and numeracy skills;
- Ability to work within an environment with SEMH children;
- Must possess a UK Driving License and have access to transportation.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS Check, the cost of which will be covered by Polaris.
