Overview of the Position

As an apprentice, you will receive comprehensive training to excel in your role, supported by a skilled and experienced team. Utilizing modern blended learning methods, you will gain essential skills while engaging in core operational tasks. Your working hours will be Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Performing maintenance on electric overhead traveling cranes and jib cranes through Planned Preventive Maintenance and scheduled servicing.
  • Executing both mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Generating service reports and monthly performance data for cranes at respective locations.
  • Adhering to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Conducting risk assessments and developing method statements.
  • Designing and installing modern electrical panels.
  • The apprenticeship encompasses an introduction to key principles and objectives, including:
  • Health and Safety principles
  • HASAW/PPE/Risk Assessment/Manual Handling/COSHH/Machinery Directive
  • Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations/Working at Height/Confined Space Working
  • Compliance with Safe Systems of Work/Development of safe working systems.
  • Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Lifting Equipment (COPSULE)

Required Skills:

  • A strong commitment to health and safety practices.
  • An organized and methodical approach, with a genuine interest in building a career with Barrett Steel.
  • Proficiency in IT, particularly in Microsoft Word, with basic knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • GCSE qualifications in English and Maths, ideally at grade 5 or above.

Candidates should reside locally and have a valid driving license or be in the process of obtaining one.
