Advanced Lifting Equipment Technician Apprentice

Overview of the Position
As an aspiring Lifting Equipment Technician, you will embark on a comprehensive training journey, supported by a dedicated and experienced team. This role utilizes innovative blended learning methods to ensure you receive top-notch training while engaging in essential business operations. The standard working hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance on electric overhead cranes and jib cranes through Planned Preventive Maintenance and scheduled servicing.
- Execute both mechanical and electrical repairs as required.
- Generate service reports and monthly performance data for cranes at designated sites.
- Adhere to manufacturer guidelines during all tasks.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop method statements.
- Design and implement electrical panel modernizations.
- The apprenticeship covers foundational principles and objectives, including:
- Health and Safety principles
- HASAW/PPE/Risk Assessment/Manual Handling/COSHH/Machinery Directive
- Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations/Working at Height/Confined Space Working
- Compliance with Safe Systems of Work/Development of safe working practices.
- Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Lifting Equipment (COPSULE)

- A fully funded 24-month apprenticeship with a blended learning model (primarily online, complemented by three face-to-face LEEA courses and six in-person days at LEEA HQ towards the end).

Candidate Profile:

Required Skills:
- A proactive approach to health and safety.
- Strong organizational skills and a methodical approach, with a genuine interest in building a career at Barrett Steel.
- Proficiency in IT, particularly with Microsoft Word, and ideally Excel and PowerPoint at a basic level.
- GCSE qualifications in English and Maths, preferably at grade 5 or above.
Additional Information:
Candidates should reside locally and possess a driving license or be in the process of obtaining one.
