About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled HVDC Protection Engineer to join our team at Siemens Energy. As a key member of our Grid Solutions business, you will play a critical role in designing and delivering full HVDC control and protection solutions for wind farm grid connections and interconnectors.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Quotation and Engineering Phase Support: Prepare quotations and engineering work packages in line with project and business objectives, and provide support during the commissioning phase.
  2. DC Protection Concept Development: Develop DC protection concepts for self-guided multilevel converters with half-bridge and full-bridge modules for various applications, including symmetrical monopole, bipole, offshore connections, and multi-terminal systems.
  3. Protection Coordination Studies: Perform protection coordination studies of HVDC systems using the simulation tool PSCAD/EMTDC, including determination of DC protection settings and preparation of study reports.
  4. Software Development and Testing: Program the software of DC protection and measurement systems in MATLAB/SIMULINK and CFC on the SIMATIC TDC multiprocessor automation system and PLUSCONTROL platform, and perform functional and performance testing.
  5. Customer Training and Support: Provide customer training and acceptance tests, and serve as a central contact person for project-related matters.
  6. Research and Development Support: Support research and development topics for HVDC projects and serve as the first point of contact for troubleshooting and after-sales support.
Requirements
  1. Education and Qualifications: University degree in electrical engineering or a comparable field of study; ideally a doctorate in the field of protection technology.
  2. Software Engineering Experience: Experience in software engineering and testing of SRS systems (open/closed loop controls and system dynamics) and very good knowledge of MATLAB/SIMULINK, ideally in connection with real-time and embedded software.
  3. Simulation Studies: Solid knowledge in modeling and simulation studies with the industrial power system program PSCAD/EMTDC.
  4. Additional Skills: Ideally knowledge of Git for version control, IEC61850, and data modeling as well as Simatic Manager and CFC.
  5. Language Skills: Fluent English speaker and writer with German preferable.
  6. Communication and Teamwork Skills: Strong communication and teamwork skills for result-oriented and creative development of our projects, focus on high-quality execution of our solutions.
