About the Role

System Studies Engineer - HVDC Control & Protection

We are seeking a highly skilled System Studies Engineer to join our HVDC Control & Protection team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and delivering full HVDC control and protection solutions for wind farm grid connections and interconnectors.

Your Responsibilities
  • Perform dynamic performance studies within tender and project execution of HVDC projects
  • Optimize the dynamic behavior of the HVDC converter, including black-start and network restoration, grid forming controls, and multi-terminal systems
  • Analyze sub-synchronous torsional/control interactions and harmonic converter impedance, as well as potential interactions between the HVDC converter and other controlled devices in the power system
  • Develop and validate simulation models for diverse EMT simulation tools, including PSCAD/EMTDC, Matlab/Simulink, and EMTP-RV
  • Provide customer training for simulation models and present study results to customers
  • Continuously improve and standardize simulation models, study procedures, and methods, as well as document results
  • Support project management in technical discussions, participate in customer meetings, and coordinate external partners
Your Skills and Qualifications
  • University degree in electrical power engineering or control engineering, combined with a PhD degree and experience in power engineering industry
  • Good knowledge of high voltage applications, power transmission systems, power electronics, and HVDC technology
  • Expertise in control engineering and modeling of HVDC systems in the time domain and frequency domain
  • Professional user of typical power system simulation programs
  • Fluent English mandatory (spoken and written), German preferable
  • Outstanding team skills, initiative, and customer orientation
