Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Research Assistant/Associate to join our esteemed Department of Engineering, focusing on the innovative field of Optical Wireless Communication.
Location: The successful candidate will be based in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and Scholarship: Formulate research objectives and proposals for independent or collaborative projects; engage in both individual and team-based research initiatives; document research findings for dissemination and publication; assist in crafting proposals and applications for external funding and contracts.
- Teaching and Learning Support: May contribute to the supervision of student projects; provide guidance and instruction to classes as needed.
- Liaison and Networking: Collaborate with colleagues and students; establish internal and external connections and engage in networks to share information and foster future collaborations.
- Planning and Organizing: Strategically manage research resources, laboratories, and workshops as necessary.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Possession of (or nearing completion of) a PhD in a relevant field, particularly in Optical Wireless Communication and Photonics.
- A robust track record in Optical Wireless Communication, optical fiber, photonics, or radio communication, evidenced by publications and presentations.
- Demonstrated experimental expertise in developing Free Space Optics (FSO) proof-of-concept prototypes.
- A willingness to engage in broader group activities, including participating in seminars, co-supervising students, and involvement in outreach initiatives.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, along with strong presentation, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-driven to meet research goals and capable of working effectively and independently within a multidisciplinary team.
Salary Information:
Research Assistant: £29,605 - £33,966
Research Associate: £36,024 - £44,263
Contract Duration: This position is funded until a specified date.
Health Assessment: The successful candidate will be required to complete a health assessment following the acceptance of an employment offer.
