Job Title: Assistant Clinical Psychologist

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Clinical Psychologist to join our research team at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of a new digitally provided therapy for individuals with psychosis.

The post is a 12-month fixed-term position, with the possibility of extension for a further 7 months. The successful candidate will be based with our research team in the Early Intervention in Psychosis service and will work closely with colleagues on other psychosis research projects at St Nicholas Hospital in Newcastle.

The primary role of the Assistant Clinical Psychologist will be to assist in the delivery of a large-scale study evaluating the real-world use and clinical effectiveness of a new psychological treatment for individuals with paranoid thoughts and suspicious behaviors. The post holder will work closely with the trial therapists, trial coordinator, and site lead to ensure the successful completion of the study.

The ideal candidate will have experience in research and/or clinical settings, with a strong understanding of mental health research and clinical trials. They will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will also have the ability to organize and manage multiple interlinked components of the project and their work.

The Assistant Clinical Psychologist will be responsible for:

  1. Screening, recruitment, and assessment of patients for the Slomo controlled trial of psychological treatment.
  2. Conducting interviews and assessments with potentially vulnerable individuals.
  3. Producing regular reports on the recruitment process and assessments.
  4. Entering and checking data in the study databases.
  5. Attending supervision and research team meetings, including training at the lead site in London.

Key Responsibilities:

Screening, Recruitment, and Assessment: The post holder will be responsible for screening, recruiting, and assessing patients for the Slomo controlled trial of psychological treatment.

Interviews and Assessments: The post holder will conduct interviews and assessments with potentially vulnerable individuals.

Reporting and Data Entry: The post holder will produce regular reports on the recruitment process and assessments, and will enter and check data in the study databases.

Supervision and Meetings: The post holder will attend supervision and research team meetings, including training at the lead site in London.

Requirements:

Experience: The post holder will have experience in research and/or clinical settings, with a strong understanding of mental health research and clinical trials.

Skills: The post holder will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education: The post holder will have a relevant degree in psychology or a related field.

Training: The post holder will have completed relevant training in research methods and clinical trials.

Language: The post holder will be fluent in English.

Driving License: The post holder will have a valid driving license and access to own or other independent means of transport.

Working Hours: The post holder will work 37 hours per week, with flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Salary: The post holder will be paid on the NHS Agenda for Change band 6 salary scale.
