Job Description

Sharpsmart UK is seeking an experienced Transport Manager to lead our Transport Team in Spennymoor. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective management of our transportation services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Transport Compliance: Ensure all transportation operations are compliant with relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Scheduling, Analysis, and Planning: Develop and implement efficient transportation schedules, analyze data to optimize routes and reduce costs, and plan for future transportation needs.
  • Out of Hours Responses: Provide timely and effective responses to out-of-hours transportation-related issues.
  • Incident Investigation and Disciplinary Processes: Investigate incidents and assist in disciplinary processes as needed.
  • Accident and Incident Investigations: Conduct thorough investigations of accidents and incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Driver Training and Auditing: Develop and implement driver training programs and conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Performance Management, Absence Management, KPI Setting, and 121s: Manage driver performance, investigate absences, set Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and conduct regular one-on-one meetings with drivers.
  • Interviewing: Conduct interviews for transportation-related positions.
  • Support to the National Transport Manager on Vehicle and Supplier Procurement and Supply: Assist the National Transport Manager in procuring and managing transportation-related services and supplies.
  • Liaison with Internal Departments and External Third Parties: Communicate with internal departments and external third parties to ensure seamless transportation operations.
  • Submit Transport Updates and Reports to Senior Management Team: Provide regular updates and reports to the Senior Management Team on transportation operations and performance.
  • Transport Employee Recruitment & Development: Recruit and develop transportation employees to ensure a skilled and effective team.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure transportation operations are conducted in a safe and healthy manner.
Requirements:
  • CPC Qualification/ADR Knowledge: Possess a CPC qualification and/or ADR knowledge.
  • Minimum 2 Years' Experience in a Similar Transport Management Role: Have a minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar transport management role with a strong understanding of transportation compliance.
  • Experience of Vehicle Routing and Excellent Geographical Knowledge for the North East Region: Have experience of vehicle routing and excellent geographical knowledge for the North East region.
  • Experience of Building Relations and Working with Drivers on a Daily Basis: Have experience of building relations and working with drivers on a daily basis.
  • Strong Organisational Skills, with the Ability to Multitask and Prioritise: Possess strong organisational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritise.
  • People Management, Including Hiring, Performance Management, Absence Management, Disciplinary Actions: Have experience of people management, including hiring, performance management, absence management, and disciplinary actions.
  • Excellent PC Skills, Including Microsoft Packages with Intermediate Excel Skills: Possess excellent PC skills, including Microsoft packages, with intermediate Excel skills.
  • Full UK Driving License: Hold a full UK driving license.
