Key Responsibilities

  • Administer a broad range of benefits services, including health insurance, life insurance, disability, and retirement programs.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees on benefits-related issues, including policy compliance and claims processing.
  • Consult with agency management on benefits issues and policy compliance.
  • Develop and implement benefits-related policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with HR, payroll, and other departments to ensure seamless benefits administration.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to employees, management, and other stakeholders.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in benefits laws, regulations, and best practices.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of policies and practices related to the administration of employee benefits.
  • Ability to analyze, make corrective action, and suggest resolution of complex benefits-related problems.
  • Ability to handle diverse and confidential information requiring extreme accuracy, independent judgment, and discretion.
  • Experience with benefits administration software, including Cardinal/HRIS, workers' comp reporting portal, and VNav.
  • Extensive knowledge of Workers' Compensation and VSDP program guidelines and experience processing claims.
  • Ability to consult effectively with all levels of staff and management to provide guidance regarding State and agency human resource policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and to effectively interact in a team or project environment with a wide range of management, technical, HR, benefits, and payroll employees.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in processes, procedures, and technology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and non-verbal ways (including body language and tone), and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience working with customers and co-workers either in person, by telephone, and electronically.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Considerable, progressively responsible experience in administering employee benefits.
