We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated R&D Workshop Technician to join our team at Smith+Nephew. As a key member of our New Product Development function, you will play a critical role in maintaining the efficient operation of our R&D workshop(s) and supporting the wider teams in design and development of new medical devices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure the workshop is equipped with the necessary tools and equipment to support both mechanical and electrical/electronic domains.
  • Proactively maintain and calibrate all equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Support hands-on prototype build and test activities in collaboration with development engineers.
  • Identify and recommend new laboratory equipment to support the new project development pipeline.
  • Maintain high standards of occupational health and safety in the workplace.

Requirements:

  • Education in a relevant subject area and proven experience working in a laboratory or R&D workshop environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of workshop/lab equipment such as soldering tools, power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, 3D printers, and hand tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
