Qualifications:

  • City and Guilds 706 – 1 & 2 or equivalent qualification (achieved or in progress)
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certification

Experience:

  • Strong communication abilities
  • Collaborative team player
  • Capability to work independently
  • Prior management or supervisory experience
  • Experience in food preparation for the relevant clientele

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the guidelines outlined in 'Safer Food – Better Business'.
  • Ensure HACCP processes are meticulously followed and documented as required.

Food Preparation:

  • Prepare, cook, and serve both hot and cold meals as needed.
  • Accommodate special dietary needs and preferences of individual clients.
  • Maintain accurate records of food supplies and monitor freezer/fridge temperatures.

Communication:

  • Assist in menu planning and costing to provide a balanced and nutritious diet, utilizing available fresh ingredients.
  • Engage in staff and client meetings as necessary.
  • Ensure menus are presented clearly, showcasing choices in various formats.

Budgetary/Financial Oversight:

  • Implement stock rotation practices. Aid in ordering stock and verifying deliveries, and assess stock as required by the Registered Manager and Head Chef.

Training and Development:

  • Supervise and guide kitchen staff in the use of equipment and hygiene protocols, providing assistance and direction as needed.
  • Continuously enhance professional knowledge and skills.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions, both on-site and off-site, as required.

General Duties:

  • Promote a positive personal and professional image within the local community, safeguarding the reputation of the care home.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive information obtained during the course of duty.
  • Notify the Head Chef or designated person promptly regarding any absence from duty.
  • Ensure the security of the care home is upheld at all times.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is kept clean and well-maintained.
  • Perform any additional tasks as reasonably assigned.
  • Act as Deputy for the Head Chef in their absence.
  • Stay informed about the company staff handbook.

To excel in this role, you should have experience working in a kitchen as a Deputy Chef, capable of managing kitchen operations and staff in the Head Chef's absence.
