Purpose of the Role: Oversee the financial management of major, intricate project(s) or a portfolio of projects from inception through tendering, negotiating, and finalizing contracts, ensuring successful commercial delivery of projects often valued in the tens of millions. Be a vital member of the project senior leadership team, holding key responsibilities that drive the commercial and financial success of each project. We seek experienced professionals who have advanced through the industry ranks; your role will encompass various aspects from risk management to procurement, financial reporting, and supply chain management. Demonstrate proven skills in commercial insight, client engagement, project oversight, and team leadership, with a comprehensive understanding of the construction sector, adaptability, and negotiation prowess. Have a track record of managing and nurturing a commercial team, and be recognized as a Chartered Member or Fellow of RICS, ICES, or CIOB, serving as a mentor to other commercial staff on their path to professional qualification. Provide senior commercial management for a large infrastructure project or a collection of projects.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Commercial Manager, your responsibilities will include: Offering commercial insights during Value Engineering assessments for various construction methods. Supporting the evaluation of tenders, including cost estimates and contract assessments. Managing the formulation of Target Costs for projects, including associated risks. Overseeing the preparation of monthly Cost Value Reports (CVR) and related commercial documentation. Reporting and articulating commercial progress to senior divisional personnel. Establishing client supply chain requirements and advising on alternative contract and procurement strategies. Applying relevant legislation and liaising with legal professionals. Preparing estimates and tender submissions, including interpreting specifications and preambles. Coordinating functions such as purchasing, accounting, production control/planning, supply chain management, procurement techniques, estimating, and surveying. Managing disallowed costs effectively. Advising on training and development initiatives, including professional growth. Engaging with educational institutions to promote Balfour Beatty as a potential employer and support sponsored students.

A leader in collating costs and maximizing value across large projects or portfolios. A champion of instilling a mindset of financial and commercial control within project teams. Demonstrated expertise in Strategic Change Management. Profound knowledge and experience in procuring and managing supply chains. Commitment to maintaining a Personal Development Plan for continuous personal and professional growth. Currently holding or pursuing professional accreditation. Proactively developing, mentoring, and coaching team members to foster talent and succession planning. Proven ability to meet deadlines through effective delegation and efficient work practices. Excellent communication skills with all internal and external stakeholders. A strong interest and experience in infrastructure projects. Demonstrated resilience and determination to achieve success. Proactively managing opportunities, risks, and challenges. Possession of an MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent educational background or experience.
