Health Visitor Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Health Visitor to join our team at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. As a Health Visitor, you will play a vital role in promoting the health and wellbeing of children and families in our community.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the provision of care for children and families in accordance with the principles and practice of Health Visiting. This will involve undertaking home visits and contacts at other community venues, such as Children Centres.
Main Duties and Responsibilities- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the provision of care for children and families in accordance with the principles and practice of Health Visiting.
- Manage and prioritize workload according to the identified health needs of the children and families within the community.
- Lead on the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme.
- Supervise, line manage, and delegate duties to the skill mix team.
- Deliver key performance indicators (KPIs) within required time scales.
- Compile caseload/community profiles/health needs assessments to establish the health needs of the community and plan and implement appropriate public health initiatives.
- Review regularly with the Team Leader and Child Protection Supervisor in supervision families causing concern, record agreed action, and follow through according to Trust and Safeguarding policies.
- Liaise with the School Health Service, with particular reference to vulnerable children, their families, and children with special needs.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the team, offering support and providing reciprocal cover for colleagues in their absence.
- Organize, develop, and participate in public health activities, including health promotion with individuals and groups.
- Develop effective partnerships and relationships with primary and secondary health care colleagues, statutory and voluntary agencies.
- Work within the policies and guidelines set out by the Trust and NMC Code of Conduct.
- Take responsibility for Nurse Prescribing in line with National and local guidelines.
- Inform the Team Leader/Clinical Lead about workload constraints that may adversely affect the level of service which can be provided.
- Ensure that all untoward incidents, accidents, and areas of clinical risk are identified and reported in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
- Keep contemporaneous notes and accurate records and maintain client confidentiality according to NMC and Trust guidelines.
- Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post.
- Contribute to policies and the development and implementation of care pathways.
- Advise on the treatment of minor ailments/illnesses in children.
- Promote the uptake of immunizations for all children in accordance with Department of Health guidelines.
- Practise as a Nurse Prescriber in accordance with the NMC and Organisational procedures and guidelines, providing appropriate advice and treatment for children and families and reviewing effectiveness of any medication prescribed.
- Administer BCG immunizations if required/undertake newborn blood spot screening for under ones.
- Deal with sensitive or contentious information.
- Participate in identified meetings such as case conferences, core group meetings, strategy meetings, and other meetings as appropriate.
- Participate in multi-agency working and develop links with Children's Social Care, School Nursing, and local GP surgeries in order to facilitate effective information sharing.
- Assist in developing and maintaining good working relationships with all colleagues, children, and families.
- Be conversant with the Trust's Children/Adult Safeguarding Procedures, referring any concerns as appropriate.
- Participate and contribute to research, audit, and evaluation of new ways of working.
- Adhere to all Trust policies, procedural guidelines, and current legislation.
- Participate and contribute to developing practices or protocols.
- Maintain equipment and report to senior staff when there is any malfunction.
- Be aware of Health and Safety hazards in the working environment and report them to a senior member of staff.
- Frequently exert light/moderate physical effort for short periods.
- Frequent short periods of driving.
- Frequent concentration to complete assessment and analysis of client need.
- Work pattern altering to meet service need and prioritizing work issues accordingly with changes faced.
- Car driving for liaison with agencies and to attend meetings and training.
- Sitting moderate periods in the office when using visual display units/writing records/correspondence.
- Working from other sites within the community, including working from home.
- Frequent exposure to distressing/highly distressing circumstances.
- Dealing with difficult family situations or circumstances.
- Discussing concerns and negotiating outcomes re safeguarding children with colleagues, primary and secondary care professionals.
Education and Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Adult Nurse Registered Children's Nurse Registered Mental Health Nurse
- Specialist Community Public Health Nursing qualification (Health Visiting)
- Current NMC Registration for Health Visiting Registered Nurse Prescriber (NMC V100)
