Job Purpose & Responsibilities:

Engagement with Young People:

  1. Develop strategies to effectively engage with young people, fostering trust and rapport through empathetic communication and active listening.
  2. Tailor school-based interventions to meet the diverse needs and interests of young people, ensuring their participation and ownership of the process.

Delivery of Guardian Ballers Service Provision:

  1. Provide and effectively deliver Guardian Ballers services, including school educational sessions, holiday camp days, and well-being interventions.
  2. Plan and facilitate interactive, group interventions and workshops that enable young people to explore factors impacting their mental and emotional health.

Support and Guidance:

  1. Provide tailored support and guidance to young people facing challenges such as family issues, mental health struggles, or involvement in risky behaviours.
  2. Help young people make informed choices regarding their ongoing care, including referrals to other services and sources of help as appropriate.
  3. Maintain a caseload of clients per cohort as arranged by and agreed with management staff.

Building Emotional Resilience:

  1. Develop and deliver targeted interventions that build emotional resilience in young people.
  2. Provide young people with the awareness and skills to manage their mental health and emotional well-being effectively.

Advocacy and Collaboration:

  1. Advocate for the needs and rights of young people, ensuring their voices are heard and respected within the school and community.
  2. Collaborate with school staff, local organisations, and agencies to coordinate support services and opportunities for young people.
  3. Engage in regular meetings and developmental tasks with the manager to continuously improve program design and volunteer growth.

Documentation and Evaluation:

  1. Ensure that all cohort data and evaluations, including outcome and monitoring forms, are accurately completed to evaluate the service and report back to funders.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Degree or equivalent experience/training in introducing wellbeing strategies.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for working with young people from diverse backgrounds.
  3. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage and motivate young people effectively.
  4. Understanding of safeguarding protocols, risk assessment procedures, and child protection legislation.
  5. Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, community partners, and stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for young people.
  6. Willingness to learn new skills and undertake CPD and training in line with the role.
  7. A commitment to the purpose, vision, mission and values of Guardian Ballers.
  8. The ability to adapt to a changing timetable on a half-term/termly basis.
  9. Ability to travel independently and reliably to sessions.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Experience of sports coaching or has worked in a sporting, educational or mental health setting.
  2. Knowledge of youth development principles, trauma-informed practice, and evidence-based interventions.
  3. Knowledge of the FUNdamental Basketball Skill Development Coaching practices.
  4. A Full driver's licence and access to a vehicle.
  5. Experience of delivering services and accustomed to gathering data for monitoring and evaluation.

Job Type: Zero hours contract

Pay: £12.00-£18.00 per hour
