Special School Nurse for Children with Complex Needs

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic nurse to join our team as a Community and Special School Nurse for Children with Disabilities. This is a dynamic role that requires a proactive and flexible individual who can work across the community and in our special schools delivering holistic, family-centered care for children and young people with complex health needs and disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of clinical nursing care.
- Delivery of specialist nursing care, including administration of medication, suctioning, tracheostomy care, gastrostomy management, and enteral feeding, seizure management.
- Holistic family support for children/young people and their families, including signposting to specialist services.
- Delivery of specialist training for families and care support staff.
- Attendance at multi-professional meetings, including child protection case conferences.
- Providing health advice for education, health, and care plans.
- Nursing sleep service - supporting children with sleep difficulties, reviewing sleep medication, and offering support and strategies to parents.
- Mentoring, supporting, and supervising junior staff and student nurses.
About You
- Registered Children's Nurse (RN Child/RSCN). RGN will be considered with relevant experience.
- Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience in nursing.
- Community/special school nursing experience.
- Experience working with children and young people with disabilities/complex health needs.
- Knowledge of statutory legislation (for example, Children's Act) and national policy drivers that will affect children's services and your role.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.
- Experience supporting staff and students and providing supervision.
- Experience working with challenging families and ability to manage conflict.
- Ability to work independently and manage own workload with minimal supervision.
- Safeguarding knowledge and experience.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Car driver and access to a car for work purposes.
