Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:
- Lead the project team to ensure successful system design and development, as well as system and sub-system implementation, integration, and testing.
- Ensure customer acceptance by meeting all design requirements.
- Identify opportunities for system enhancements and upgrades, supporting the development of strategic roadmaps.
- Provide robust technical governance and mentorship to the design team.
- Assist project management in reporting to various internal and external stakeholders.
- Engage primarily with sensor and communications networked systems, with potential expansion into related domains.
Specific Duties Include:
As the System Design Authority, you will:
- Support Project Managers on all technical matters, acting as the technical authority for the project.
- Oversee design activities at the equipment, system, and software levels, ensuring rigorous testing protocols are established.
- Meet technical requirements throughout all design phases, leading to customer acceptance.
- Develop comprehensive technical documentation, including test plans, specifications, and procedures.
- Coordinate and supervise testing and qualification activities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage project technical risks and opportunities effectively.
- Guide hardware, software, and firmware engineering teams to ensure system designs meet operational performance standards.
- Review and approve technical documentation.
- Prepare for and participate in project design reviews with customers.
- Engage in acceptance events at various sites.
- Contribute to the safety, reliability, and ongoing support of products.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A proven track record in delivering complex system design, implementation, testing, and integration within the defense or similarly regulated sectors.
- Experience across the full system lifecycle, including design, development, testing, integration, and acceptance.
- The ability to analyze and specify system acceptance criteria.
- Familiarity with modern software design methodologies in languages such as C++, Java, and C#.
- An understanding of network technologies and complex electronics and firmware design principles.
- Strong technical knowledge of military-grade COTS communication and sensor systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with stakeholders, customers, and suppliers.
- Proven ability to manage, motivate, and develop engineering teams to meet targets within established timelines and quality standards.
- Eligibility to obtain DV UK security clearance.
- A valid driving license and willingness to travel as needed.
