As a Carbon and Sustainability Manager, you will play a critical role in supporting our projects in achieving their carbon reduction targets and BREEAM assessment requirements. You will work closely with our environment lead, project teams, and supply chain partners to develop and implement strategies that reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive carbon management plan for the project, aligned with HS2-HS2-SU-STD technical standards.
  • Collaborate with the design team to update life cycle assessments at key project gateways and ensure a final 'as-built' LCA is conducted at the end of construction.
  • Support the BREEAM process as the appointed champion, recording meeting minutes, site visit reports, and correspondence with the project team to demonstrate progress against BREEAM targets.
  • Attend site and project team meetings to ensure construction and installations align with targeted BREEAM credit requirements.
  • Work with the BREEAM assessor, project team, and contractors to ensure timely submission of evidence using tracker+ or similar systems.
  • Support the project-level understanding of relevant environmental requirements and develop mitigations to prevent impacts on the construction program.
  • Contribute to and roll out 'Good practice guides' for environmental requirements and regularly socialize with MDJV colleagues.
  • Manage general environmental inquiries and work with the U&A/consents team on environmental requirements affecting the project.
  • Provide regular and ad-hoc reports on environmental issues, meeting minutes, and presentation materials as required.
  • Periodically update the environmental processes in the project Integrated Management System with the MDJV Euston team.
  • Ensure the stakeholder record management system is regularly updated and provides a clear summary of current discussions with external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain the environmental key risks and issues log to report to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Integrity: acting fairly, transparently, and consistently.
  • Education to degree level or equivalent, typically in an environmental discipline or related field.
  • Professional membership of an appropriate environmental body (e.g., MIEMA).
  • Appropriate CSCS card type and level.
