Rate: £50.00 per hour

Duration: 3-6 months
Interviews: ASAP with a start as soon as possible thereafter
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Planning Lawyer to join our team on a locum basis. The initial rolling 3-month contract involves managing a complex caseload of planning and highways matters, including high-value projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver timely legal advice to the Council and its departments on planning and highways matters.
- Draft standard planning agreements, undertakings, and highways agreements.
- Manage routine legal cases involving planning, highways, and licensing matters.
- Handle proceedings, public inquiries, appeals, and judicial reviews before various courts and tribunals.
- Prepare clear reports for the Planning committee and other committees.
- Gain experience in Licensing law.
- Deputise for Senior Lawyers when needed.
Requirements:
- Qualified Solicitor or Fellow of CILEX, entitled to practice in England and Wales.
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload and work independently.
- Broad knowledge of Local Government law, planning, and highways legislation.
- Willingness to develop knowledge and experience in licensing law.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to draft and communicate legal advice concisely and in plain English.
- Ability to work constructively with elected Members while being politically aware and sensitive.
- Knowledge of civil procedures, such as public inquiries and judicial reviews.
