Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Health Officer to join our team at Venn Group. As a key member of our Public Health - Public Protection Team, you will play a crucial role in providing a corporately responsible and accessible environmental health service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough inspections and data collection to identify potential environmental hazards and risks.
  • Evaluate and appraise collected data to assess and prioritize levels of risk, comparing with industry standards and regulations.
  • Utilize appropriate legal powers to collect and present evidence, serve legal notices, and make orders as necessary.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to mitigate risks and promote a safe and healthy environment.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including members of the public, businesses, and colleagues, to respond to complaints and provide guidance on legislative standards.
  • Collaborate with businesses to develop and improve joint projects and ways of working, such as acting as Primary Authority Manager or main contact.
  • Prepare and present written reports to colleagues and stakeholders, highlighting key findings and recommendations.
  • Monitor and assess your caseload to ensure effective delivery of services.
  • Assist in the training of other colleagues to enhance their knowledge and skills in environmental health.
  • Analyze and interpret legislation to ensure compliance and best practices.

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health and registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
  • Considerable post-qualification experience in Environmental Health, with a good knowledge and understanding of Environmental Health issues, including legislation and regulation.
  • Detailed experience in one of the following Environmental Health specialisms: Food safety, Health & safety, Housing, Pollution control, Port Health, or Infectious Disease Control.
  • Ability to apply theoretical knowledge of Environmental Health in practical situations, with good communication and presentational skills.
  • Confidence to deal with difficult, sensitive, and confrontational situations.
