Position Overview

Net Zero People is collaborating with a prominent Planning Consultancy in the Renewable Energy sector, seeking a Senior Flood Risk Consultant with a minimum of five years' experience in the industry. The ideal candidate will possess a keen interest in flood risk management, sustainable drainage solutions, and the broader engineering landscape.


The Senior Consultant will play a pivotal role within the flood risk and drainage engineering division, leading the planning, design, and implementation of flood risk management initiatives. This position requires a commitment to technical excellence, compliance with relevant regulations, effective mentorship of junior staff, and support for the Head of Flood Risk and Drainage in business and client development.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site viability assessments and walkover surveys.
  • Perform flood risk assessments and develop sustainable surface and foul water drainage designs.
  • Commission surveys as necessary and resolve engineering challenges identified during planning applications.
  • Assist clients in obtaining the required post-planning approvals.
  • Engage with developers and clients, consult with regulatory bodies and planning authorities.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams within the consultancy and partner organizations to deliver effective designs.
  • Demonstrate a strong technical understanding of hydrology, hydraulic modeling (both fluvial and sewer), drainage, and other infrastructure delivery aspects.
  • Prepare engineering solutions for flood risk and drainage from initial conceptual design through to tender preparation and ongoing project management.

Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate will hold an engineering or science-related degree or equivalent. While not mandatory, progress towards chartered status with the ICE, CIWEM, or a similar professional organization with C.Eng accreditation is preferred.


This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, requiring office attendance a few times per week.
