The Hartford is a leading insurance company that provides a wide range of coverage options to individuals and businesses. As a Marine Claims Handler, you will play a critical role in ensuring that claims are handled promptly, fairly, and with integrity.

Job Responsibilities

As a Marine Claims Handler, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing, assessing, and adjusting assigned claims to ensure accurate coverage and proper reserving.
  • Proactively managing claim files to ensure all documentation is correctly filed and claims are regularly updated and diaried.
  • Ensuring claims are handled promptly, fairly, and with integrity in accordance with The Hartford's claims management guidelines.
  • Working closely with claims management and other team members as required on individual claims.
  • Receiving mentoring and coaching from experienced senior claims handlers and claims management.
  • Maintaining the highest standards of communication with claims management and underwriting to ensure information on significant claims and claims trends is shared expeditiously.
  • Ensuring large loss information is shared promptly and that large loss reports are issued appropriately.
  • Liaising with other departments as appropriate, including but not limited to Underwriting, Finance, Actuaries, and Reinsurance.
  • Attending market claim meetings as required.
  • Liaising with brokers, stakeholders, and policyholders as required.
  • Liaising with other Hartford offices as required.
  • Assisting with reinsurance issues as required.
  • Ensuring compliance with Lloyds minimum standards and all regulatory and statutory requirements relating to claims handling, in particular TCF.

Qualifications and Capabilities

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Relevant Marine claims handling experience.
  • Working knowledge of ECF2.
  • Willingness to continue to develop knowledge of insurance and related issues through formal and informal learning and exams.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to develop and sustain relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Working knowledge of general insurance and its underlying principles.
  • Knowledge of FCA/PRA and Lloyd's rules and guidelines.
  • Progression to CII qualifications desired.

Education and Experience

You will need:

  • A level or University degree.
  • Relevant Marine claims handling experience.
