UnHerd is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Editorial Team Lead to join our senior editorial team.

About the Role:

  • As Editorial Team Lead, you will play a leading role in curating, editing, and managing UnHerd's daily output, working closely with the Editor to refine and define UnHerd's future growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of editors and writers, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality content is produced.
  • Develop and implement editorial strategies to drive engagement and growth, leveraging your expertise in commissioning, editing, and leadership.
  • Collaborate with the Editor to define UnHerd's expansion, contributing to the company's continued success, both editorially and strategically.
  • Balance on-edition pieces with longer-term projects, both in the UK and the US, ensuring a cohesive and engaging content strategy.
  • Manage UnHerd's editorial team in the Editor's absence, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations.
  • Mentor and coach junior members of staff, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Consider how magazine pieces may feed into other sections of UnHerd, including events and YouTube videos, to maximize content reach and impact.

Requirements:

  • At least five years of experience working at a senior level in a national newspaper or magazine.
  • Proven track record of managing a team of editors and writers, with a focus on quality and innovation.
  • Excellent editing, commissioning, and leadership skills, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling.
  • Strong understanding of UnHerd's mission and values, with a clear vision for how you can contribute to the company's growth and success.
  • Fluency in social media and awareness of how to grow an online audience, with a focus on engagement and community-building.
  • Eagerness to work in a start-up environment, with a willingness to adapt and evolve in a fast-paced and dynamic setting.
