Technical Author (IT Defense)

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Author to join our team at Amber Labs. As a Technical Author, you will be responsible for producing high-quality documentation that contributes to the effective implementation, maintenance, and operation of IT defense systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineers, developers, and security experts to obtain an in-depth understanding of defense systems and software.
  • Create, edit, and maintain a variety of technical documentation, including user manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), configuration guides, installation guides, and system architecture documentation.
  • Ensure documentation meets defense industry standards, particularly related to cybersecurity, compliance, and technical accuracy.
  • Review and revise documentation according to internal feedback, peer review, and changing system requirements.
  • Ensure that all documentation is secure and follows classified information handling protocols when necessary.
  • Work with project teams to ensure that documentation is delivered on time and aligns with project milestones.
  • Maintain document version control and handle updates for existing systems and newly implemented defense technology.
  • Liaise with technical teams to ensure knowledge transfer is clear and concise, supporting training and onboarding processes.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Technical Author, preferably within the defense, cybersecurity, or IT industries.
  • Strong knowledge of IT defense systems, network security, and related technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex technical information into easily understandable documentation.
  • Experience with various documentation tools and formats, such as Microsoft Word, XML, HTML, or DITA.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations, such as NIST, ISO 27001, or government compliance standards like GDPR or FISMA.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience working in defense or security-focused industries.
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and ITIL frameworks.
  • Security clearance (or ability to obtain one).
