Position Overview

The primary responsibility of the Onshore Lead Technician is to execute maintenance and refurbishment tasks on ROV systems and related tooling packages within the workshop environment.

In addition, the Lead Technician is expected to provide support and direction to workshop personnel, operations planners, and project teams as necessary.

Duties & Responsibilities

Core Functions

Essential Duties

  • Perform maintenance, including mobilization, demobilization, periodic checks, and refurbishment of company or client-owned equipment.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with company operational and maintenance standards, as well as relevant legislation.
  • Update maintenance records to document all repairs and service performed on company-owned equipment.
  • Coordinate with the onshore supervisor to guarantee the availability of equipment, parts, and consumables for a seamless operational start.
  • Identify any changes in work scope, assess potential impacts on scheduling, and communicate these to the onshore supervisor.
  • Adhere to and promote safety policies and procedures to maintain a secure working environment.
  • Engage in daily toolbox discussions with the workshop team.
  • Conduct regular safety audits.
  • Participate in incident investigations as required.
  • Lead the formulation and review of Risk Assessments and Job Safety Environmental Analysis (JSEA).
  • Maintain an updated library of Risk Assessments and JSEA.
  • Provide mentorship to workshop staff on QHSE and 5S practices, including JSEA, Risk Assessments, COSHH, and best practices for pressure testing.
  • Drive the development and implementation of 5S and QHSE enhancements.
  • Act as a substitute for the Onshore Supervisor during their absence.
  • Assist with additional tasks as needed.

Non-Essential Duties

  • Lead daily toolbox discussions if necessary.
  • Travel to client sites, both domestic and international, to provide technical support as required.
  • Attend project initiation meetings to offer technical assistance.
  • Contribute to engineering and quality enhancement initiatives as needed.
  • Support the development of competency portfolios, guiding technicians in the timely completion and documentation of competencies.

Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures to the fullest extent possible, fostering a safe working environment.

Additional Responsibilities

Perform tasks in alignment with the Company’s Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Systems.

Execute assigned duties with diligence concerning the Integrated Management Systems of the Company.

Minimize waste in all forms, advocate for environmentally friendly practices, and contribute to ongoing environmental improvements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not entail direct supervisory responsibilities.

Reporting Structure

Reports directly to the Onshore Supervisor.

Qualifications

Required

  • City Guilds or SVQ Level 3 in Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical, or Hydraulic Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and a track record of developing team members.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven understanding of 5S and lean methodologies.
  • Experience working at heights.
  • Certification for overhead crane operation.

Desired

  • HNC/HND in Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical, or Hydraulic Engineering.
  • City and Guilds - Pressure Testing SCQF Level 6.
  • Familiarity with subsea XT controls and operations.
  • Knowledge of manifold, umbilical, and subsea XT installation processes.
  • Experience in incident investigation.
  • 5S or Lean Champion certification.
  • IOSH Managing Safely certification.
  • Forklift Truck certification.

Working Conditions

The employee may work in various environments, both indoors and outdoors, sometimes at night. Conditions may vary, including exposure to noise from tools and machinery. The role may involve offshore work where vessel movements can impact operations.

PPE must be worn at all times.

Physical Requirements

The employee is required to stand, walk, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and may need to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The role involves frequently lifting or moving up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing abilities must encompass all ranges.

This position is classified as Medium work.
