About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cryogenics Engineer to join our team at the UK Atomic Energy Authority. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in the design of cryogenic systems for STEP, the UK's prototype fusion powerplant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop P&IDs and numerical models for cryogenic systems
  • Perform heat load analysis and mass flow modeling
  • Ensure robust documentation, including technical notes and reports
  • Collaborate with industry partners and the wider cryogenics sector on innovative developments
  • Supervise junior engineers or students
  • Manage significant contracts and vendor relationships
  • Prepare papers for journals and conferences, and present at seminars and conferences
Requirements
  • Degree or equivalent in Cryogenic, Mechanical, or Process Engineering, or equivalent STEM subject
  • Significant experience in cryogenics, either in a laboratory or industrial setting
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Solid understanding of modern standards in Quality Assurance, Safety, Health, and the Environment
  • Demonstrable ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Proven capability in engineering analysis and a good working knowledge of engineering materials and their properties
  • Experience with relevant environmental factors, such as plasmas, vacuum, and transient magnetic fields
