Role Responsibilities

The oncology pharmacy team plays a crucial role in patient care, actively participating in clinical rounds led by consultants, engaging in multidisciplinary team meetings focused on hematological malignancies, and providing guidance to other healthcare professionals. Responsibilities also include assisting with patient admissions and discharges, as well as conducting various audits.

Our cancer care services encompass four outpatient facilities, catering to different patient demographics, including young adults and private patients. Our specialized pharmacists are responsible for meticulously reviewing prescriptions for systemic anticancer therapies and offering expert advice to both medical staff and patients. Several pharmacists within our team hold prescribing qualifications and conduct patient consultations in outpatient settings, evaluating treatment plans and prescribing necessary medications.

The oncology pharmacy department oversees the chemotherapy electronic prescribing system, which is utilized across multiple acute trusts.

As a member of our team, you will engage in a structured rotation of clinical and technical service activities. This includes the thorough review of prescriptions for outpatient and inpatient systemic anticancer treatments, ward-based clinical pharmacy duties, and collaboration with pharmacy technicians in the aseptic unit. You will also serve as a releasing pharmacist for a variety of aseptically prepared systemic anticancer therapies, with comprehensive training provided.

Our on-site outpatient pharmacy dispenses all oral systemic anticancer medications and supportive therapies for patients undergoing outpatient treatment, allowing our oncology pharmacists to focus more on clinical responsibilities.

This role offers a unique opportunity to gain extensive experience in cancer care, and you will be expected to integrate seamlessly into our pharmacy team, contributing positively to the service provided to cancer patients. You will acquire experience in clinical pharmacy within both inpatient and outpatient environments, electronic prescribing, aseptic production, and service commissioning. Qualifications and Experience
