Are you an experienced Manufacturing Engineer seeking a rewarding opportunity? We are in search of a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to become a vital part of our team at Leonardo. In this role, you will engage with the Integrated Sensing and Protection division, recognized for its excellence in providing defense electronics and mission-critical systems that enhance situational awareness, electronic warfare, communications, and surveillance across various domains.

As a Lead Manufacturing Engineer, you will foster cross-functional collaboration and positively influence project teams, contributing to the advancement of our operations and production methodologies.

Your responsibilities will include developing effective solutions to facilitate the seamless transition of new products from design to production. You will be tasked with planning and executing your work over medium-term timelines while offering intricate technical guidance to both internal and external stakeholders.

In this position, you will collaborate with the team to enhance and support manufacturing processes and equipment, ensuring top-tier production of Leonardo products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Innovate manufacturing processes by analyzing product specifications; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing techniques and equipment; gathering feedback from operators, and consulting with equipment suppliers.
  • Organize and prepare for Manufacturing Maturity Reviews, uphold governance through the Lifecycle Management process, and create, contribute to, review, and/or lead Manufacturing Plans.
  • Deliver manufacturing decision-making insights with resolution proposals by evaluating production schedules, labor and material costs, and forecasting future needs; prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Resolve complex product and production challenges by addressing bottlenecks on the shop floor and responding effectively to escalations from manufacturing teams.
  • Enhance manufacturing efficiency through capacity analysis, simulation planning, workflow optimization, spatial requirements, and equipment layout design.
  • Review manufacturing documentation, which may include contributions to process-specific risk assessments, COSHH data, technical reports, and specifications.
  • Ensure product and process quality by designing methods; validating and verifying process capabilities; establishing standards; and confirming manufacturing procedures.
  • Participate in failure investigations employing problem-solving techniques.
  • Guarantee the accuracy of manufacturing data, including routings, production plans, control plans, and electronic work instructions.
  • Identify continuous improvement initiatives to enhance skills and competencies within Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Complete improvement and development projects by training and collaborating with the manufacturing engineer community.
  • Promote a culture of best practice sharing and knowledge utilization.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members to enhance overall team capability.
  • Provide domain expertise in support of customer and user engagement and product roadmaps.
  • Uphold product and company reputation by adhering to government regulations.
  • Hold a degree in a relevant engineering discipline or possess equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes and principles.
  • Exhibit people management and leadership skills, including effective performance and change management abilities.
  • Influence and negotiate with stakeholders using data and analysis to support your reasoning.
  • Possess a detailed understanding of operational frameworks and business processes.
  • Understand cross-functional and commercial business processes and their impacts.
  • Take ownership of work packages; plan and schedule your workload and that of others.
  • Have an operational understanding of project work and its impact on other project activities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience across multiple phases of the Product Life Cycle and associated processes.
  • Experience in peer reviewing the work of others within a product team and ensuring implementation of resulting actions.
  • Understand the risk/reward process associated with engineering activities that inform product team activities.
  • Communicate concepts in a clear, non-technical manner.
  • Exhibit confidence and the ability to address technical and process-related issues.
  • Interact effectively with customers and suppliers.
  • Participate in capability and process development, demonstrating the ability to implement changes to working practices.
  • Experience in developing manufacturing capabilities and understanding Industry 4.0 and Smart Factory principles.
