In this position, you will cultivate cross-functional partnerships and positively influence project teams, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of our operations and optimizing production processes.

Your responsibilities will include crafting effective solutions to facilitate the seamless transition of new products from design to production. You will be expected to manage your workload independently, focusing on medium-term planning while providing intricate technical guidance to both internal and external stakeholders.

As a Lead Manufacturing Engineer, you will collaborate with the team to enhance and support manufacturing processes and equipment, ensuring top-tier production quality of Leonardo products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop manufacturing processes by analyzing product specifications; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing techniques and equipment; gathering feedback from operators, and liaising with equipment suppliers.
  • Organize and prepare for Manufacturing Maturity Reviews, uphold governance through the Lifecycle Management process, and create, contribute to, or review Manufacturing Plans.
  • Provide insightful manufacturing decision-making information along with resolution proposals by reviewing production schedules, labor and material costs, and estimating future needs; prepare detailed product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Address complex product and production challenges on the shop floor, efficiently responding to escalations from manufacturing teams.
  • Enhance manufacturing efficiency through capacity analysis, workflow simulation planning, space assessments, and equipment layout optimization.
  • Review manufacturing documentation, including process-specific risk assessments, COSHH data, technical reports, and specifications.
  • Ensure product and process quality by designing methods; validating and verifying process capabilities; establishing standards; and confirming manufacturing procedures.
  • Participate in failure investigations employing problem-solving techniques.
  • Ensure accuracy of manufacturing data, including routings, production plans, control plans, and electronic work instructions.
  • Identify continuous improvement initiatives to enhance skills and competencies within Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Complete improvement and development projects by mentoring and collaborating with the manufacturing engineer community.
  • Foster a culture of best practice sharing and knowledge utilization.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members to enhance overall team capability.
  • Provide domain expertise to support customer engagement and product roadmaps.
  • Uphold product and company reputation by adhering to government regulations.
  • Hold a degree in a relevant engineering discipline or possess equivalent experience.
  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes and principles.
  • Demonstrate people management and leadership skills, including effective performance and change management capabilities.
  • Influence and negotiate effectively using data and analysis to support your reasoning.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of operational frameworks and business processes.
  • Understand cross-functional and commercial business processes and their impacts.
  • Take ownership of work packages, planning and scheduling your workload and that of others.
  • Understand project work dynamics and how team contributions affect other project activities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience across multiple phases of the Product Life Cycle and associated processes.
  • Review peer contributions within product teams and ensure resulting actions are implemented.
  • Understand the risk/reward process related to engineering activities and its implications for product teams.
  • Communicate technical concepts in an accessible manner.
  • Confidently address technical and process-related issues.
  • Engage effectively with customers and suppliers.
  • Participate in capability and process development initiatives, demonstrating an ability to implement changes in working practices.
  • Experience in developing manufacturing capabilities and understanding Industry 4.0/Smart factory principles.
