Position Overview

The Bioscience Automation Team at Syngenta Crop Protection is seeking a motivated and creative Automation Specialist. This role involves daily collaboration with scientists to leverage our expanding automation platform to tackle innovative challenges. You will play a key role in addressing these challenges through inventive solutions, establishing automated workflows, and engaging in interdisciplinary projects with a diverse team, providing essential technical expertise to deliver impactful solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting workflows on our Tecan Evo liquid handler.
  • Collaborating with scientists to convert manual processes into automated workflows.
  • Maintaining and diagnosing issues with the liquid handler.
  • Providing support and training to scientists for operating and making minor adjustments to their workflows.
  • Creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for team members.
  • Assisting in the selection of new automation technologies.
  • Contributing to Syngenta's vision of advancing towards the lab of the future.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a similar automation role, preferably in a laboratory setting.
  • Proficient in writing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting workflows on a liquid handler, ideally a Tecan Evo.
  • Skilled in collaborating with scientists to transition manual processes to automated workflows, including training and support.
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills:
  • MSc or equivalent experience in a scientific or engineering field.
  • Experience in integrating and automating laboratory equipment.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C++, C#, R, or SQL.
  • Experience with IoT devices, microcontrollers, single-board computers, or device integration.
  • Knowledge of Synthace and Design of Experiments (DoE).
  • Experience in image analysis.
