Position Overview

The role involves being an integral part of the Integrated Safeguarding Team within the Trust. The primary objective is to deliver specialized advisory, supportive, and educational services to colleagues throughout the Trust, with a particular emphasis on the Mental Capacity Act (MCA), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS), and the safeguarding of adults.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the broader Safeguarding Adults initiative and will facilitate collaborative interprofessional and interagency training and working concerning MCA, DOLS, and safeguarding practices.

Working closely with the Professional Lead for Safeguarding Adults and the wider safeguarding team, the post holder will ensure the establishment of robust internal policies and guidelines, serving as a central point for the dissemination of information related to policies, procedures, and training. They will assist in the development of professional standards and the promotion of best practices, providing accessible, accurate, and relevant information and support to Trust staff regarding the implementation of MCA, DOLS, and broader safeguarding efforts.

Additionally, the post holder will act as a contact point to offer advice and specialized knowledge to organizations and practitioners across the Trust's operational area.

Main Responsibilities

  • Providing expert advice and support on MCA, DOLS, and adult safeguarding issues for all Trust staff.
  • Developing, maintaining, and evaluating a training program focused on MCA and DOLS.
  • Collaborating on complex cases with colleagues to enhance their competence and confidence in managing MCA, DOLS, and best interest decision-making.
  • Accessing legal counsel when necessary, with support from the Professional Lead for MCA/DOLS.
  • Conducting regular audits of practice.
  • Quality assuring all DOLS applications and offering guidance on MCA within the Trust while maintaining current databases.
  • Participating in committees, forums, and meetings as directed by the Professional Lead for MCA/DOLS.

Qualifications
