Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced healthcare assistant to join our team on a part-time basis for 16 hours per week, on Thursday and Friday. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in primary care and have completed a healthcare qualification or be working towards this.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery of clinical and administrative services.
- Undertake NHS health checks and collect specimens and urinalysis as directed.
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, recording findings accurately.
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly.
- Undertake wound care, dressings, and other clinical tasks.
- Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
- Carry out BMI checks and act as a chaperone.
- Administer flu vaccinations and carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse.
- Carry out ECGs as requested and ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
- Provide support during minor operations/implants/coil fits and deliver opportunistic health promotion.
- First diabetic checks, when trained.

Person Specification
- Successful completion of the Care Certificate or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC.
- Level 3/4 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
- Experience of working within a GP practice and strong clinical skills.
- Confidence and competence in all HCA duties required for the post.
- Experience within primary care or another healthcare setting and excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills.
- Consistently confidential manner, as well as a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers, and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and determine own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
