Position Overview

The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) is dedicated to delivering essential services to NHS entities, contractors, patients, and the general public.

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Senior Enterprise Solutions Architect to become a key member of our Enterprise Architecture team within the Digital, Data, and Technology (DDaT) Directorate. This role is crucial for guiding the strategic design and development of enterprise-level solutions across the organization.

Main Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  1. Collaborating with business units and DDaT colleagues to formulate strategies, comprehend business requirements, and deliver enterprise solutions.
  2. Adopting a comprehensive design approach, fostering a culture of reuse, and ensuring ownership of technology architectural standards across the NHSBSA.
  3. Defining and documenting current and future state architectures, as well as solution architectures for business services and their integration within the overall Enterprise Architecture.
  4. Leading investigative analyses, facilitating the scoping and prioritization of complex changes, and providing options appraisals and recommendations for business cases.
  5. Addressing intricate business challenges by translating both logical and physical designs into user-friendly processes and systems.
  6. Taking a proactive role in identifying and disseminating best practices, leading relevant communities of practice to promote the adoption of design standards and trends.

Key Accountabilities:

As the post holder, you will be accountable for:

  1. Leading a multidisciplinary team of architects, ensuring the development of technology architectural standards and governance forums.
  2. Documenting and defining solution architectures for business services and their integration within the overall Enterprise Architecture.
  3. Conducting investigative analyses and providing recommendations for complex changes, including accurate cost estimations.
  4. Setting direction for the introduction and application of standards, tools, and techniques to meet organizational requirements.
  5. Providing leadership and mentorship to a multidisciplinary scrum team, ensuring quality assurance processes are followed.
  6. Monitoring the development of new technologies and assessing their potential value to enhance organizational capabilities.
  7. Identifying and sharing best practices to drive the adoption of design standards and trends.

Staff Management:

You will also be responsible for:

  1. Managing staff development, recruitment, and resources while applying a matrix management approach.
  2. Enabling team performance through objective setting and conducting performance appraisals.
  3. Planning and organizing complex plans, adjusting strategic direction as necessary.
  4. Participating in recruitment and selection processes to secure suitable resources.
  5. Providing feedback to support team development and independent problem-solving.

Knowledge Management:

Your role will involve:

  1. Leading strategic oversight of new research initiatives and keeping abreast of technological advancements.
  2. Developing domain knowledge and expertise to support future business needs.
  3. Taking ownership of decision-making within your area and developing solutions iteratively.

Financial Management:

You will be responsible for:

  1. Managing the architecture team's budget in accordance with organizational policies.
  2. Developing proposals for future investments and preparing necessary estimates and business cases.
  3. Monitoring budgets for major systems and projects.

Relationship Management:

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Identifying partnership opportunities and developing relationships with stakeholders.
  2. Participating in the evaluation and procurement of hardware, software, and services.

Information Management:

You will oversee:

  1. Multiple systems and services, ensuring compliance with service levels and performance standards.

Delivery Management:

Your role will involve:

  1. Inputting into workforce planning and ensuring operational commitments are met.
  2. Leading teams to deliver multiple strands of work, including continuous improvement and project-related tasks.
