Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our team, playing a key role in supporting StrideUp's growth ambitions. As an Underwriter, you will work closely with the Head of Underwriting and other key stakeholders to ensure the customer's journey is seamless.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reporting directly into the Head of Underwriting as part of a dynamic team
  • Maintaining a working pipeline of applications from Decision in Principle (DIP) through to Offer
  • Reviewing and assessing referred DIPs submitted via intermediary and direct to consumer portals, ensuring accuracy of the decision to accept or decline while adhering to Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Accurately assessing customer eligibility, suitability, and risks associated with each full Home Purchase Plan application
  • Making informed underwriting decisions based on the credit policy, underwriting guidelines, and our risk appetite
  • Liaising with panel valuers
  • Completing and analyzing credit searches
  • Working closely with our Advisor and Intermediary Support teams to ensure the customer's journey is as smooth as possible
  • Collaborating with the Head of Underwriting to train, coach, and share knowledge with all Underwriters to ensure consistency of underwriting and interpretation of the Credit Policy
Requirements
  • Held and maintained a lending mandate of at least £250,000
  • Minimum of 3 years of Underwriting experience in Owner-Occupied Mortgages
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g. Mortgage Conduct of Business (MCOB), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Consumer Duty)
  • Mortgage industry awareness
  • Experience of managing a pipeline of cases
  • Working knowledge of analyzing Credit Reference Agency (CRA) data, reviewing valuations, AML, DPA & Fraud prevention
  • Working in an environment where service levels and productivity are key
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and office software skills
