About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Radiotherapy Physicist to join our Radiotherapy Physics Service. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality radiotherapy services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the radiotherapy physics team.
    • Develop and implement quality standards, timescales, and performance targets.
    • Monitor progress, check results, and provide support to team members as needed.
    • Write reports and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Research and Development
    • Conduct independent applied research and development in radiotherapy physics.
    • Prepare and present scientific papers at local, national, and international meetings and conferences.
  • Technical Expertise
    • Develop and maintain systems and write software and scripts relevant to radiotherapy computer systems.
    • Provide technical expertise in radiation dosimetry, treatment unit technology, treatment planning systems, and computer systems in radiotherapy.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Communicate complex information to healthcare professionals and equipment manufacturers.
    • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless delivery of radiotherapy services.
Requirements
  • Education and Qualifications
    • Honours first degree in physics or containing a major physics component.
    • Certified Medical Physics Expert on the national register or application in progress.
  • Experience
    • Highly developed specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of radiation dosimetry, treatment unit technology, treatment planning systems, and computer systems in radiotherapy.
    • Specialist training and practical experience of a wide range of radiotherapy equipment and computing equipment.
    • Advanced knowledge of patient and machine dosimetry and quality assurance in radiotherapy.
    • Highly developed knowledge of clinical issues and their implications for radiotherapy physics practice.
