OMass Therapeutics is a pioneering biotechnology firm located in Oxford, dedicated to discovering innovative treatments for well-validated target ecosystems, including membrane proteins and intracellular complexes. We are looking for a Laboratory Operations Specialist to join our dynamic and innovative team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in our mission to address unmet patient needs while contributing to the growth of Britain's Biggest Biotech. Your expertise will support our scientific team in overcoming drug discovery challenges as you collaborate within multi-disciplinary project teams. You will work in state-of-the-art laboratories and modern facilities designed for optimal collaboration within a focused and caring environment.

To excel in this position, you should have experience in supporting laboratory and operational functions to ensure the seamless operation of a biotechnology company.

Requirements

Essential Experience, Skills and Qualities

  • Prior experience as a laboratory or operations technician, or equivalent qualifications in a life science environment.
  • Familiarity with chemicals and solvents utilized in research and development settings.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
  • Capability to identify issues and devise effective solutions.
  • Strong numerical and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work flexibly within a team and independently as needed.
  • Proficiency in using Office 365 and a willingness to learn new tools.
  • A positive and proactive approach to problem-solving and adapting to changing demands.
  • An innovative and ambitious mindset, with a curious and agile approach to overcoming technical challenges; motivated to continuously learn and embrace new challenges.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Experience with the My Amici system for ordering.
  • Previous exposure to working with Fluics.
  • Experience in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting within scientific or biomedical settings.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and stock maintenance.
  • Experience in handling LN2 and related tasks.

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage the receipt of consumables and chemical deliveries, ensuring accuracy and proper storage, while conducting regular stock checks and raising orders through the My Amici system as necessary.
  • Ensure the safe disposal of Clinical, General, Recyclable, and liquid waste in compliance with regulations.
  • Monitor and manage licenses for chemicals and solvents using internal tracking systems, including conducting spot checks and assisting in the preparation and review of COSHH Risk Assessments to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Support the Site Operations Manager with health and safety inspections, procedures, and responsibilities as required.
  • Proactively maintain laboratory spaces, ensuring cleanliness, functionality, and safety.
  • Act as the first responder to equipment failures, assessing repair needs and coordinating with engineers for maintenance. Support the organization of annual and ad hoc servicing for laboratory equipment and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Oversee LN2 and cylinder levels, including occasional decanting and changing cylinders as required.
  • Assist with various tasks and inquiries from scientists and the Site Operations Manager, such as stocktaking, restocking consumables, and providing out-of-hours support and holiday cover as needed.
  • Foster internal and external relationships to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Share information openly and collaborate with other departments to advance projects and achieve company objectives.
