Lead Science Technician Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Science Technician to join our team at a fantastic Secondary School in Lewisham, South London. As a key member of the Science Department, you will be responsible for leading the practical and technical aspects of the science curriculum.

About the Role:
  • Prepare, maintain, and organize resources required for healthy, safe, and secure practical activities.
  • Provide technical support to the Science Department, including managing the provision of technical support for learning activities.
  • Work closely with AP/Heads of Department and attend departmental meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Advise the technician team on departmental matters and needs for additional support in consultation with the team leader.
  • Monitor stock levels of consumables, receive chemicals, equipment, and biological materials, and ensure all materials are stored neatly and in an organized and safe way.
  • Maintain records of health and safety checks, risk assessments, instruction manuals, data sheets, service and repair records, and ensure all records are up-to-date and accurate.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that records of breakages and deterioration/damage to any equipment, chemicals, or resources are maintained.
  • Maintain a register of all incidents involving safety or damage and an asset register of all equipment.
  • Co-manage the budget for the purchase of technical materials and equipment alongside the Head of Science and undertake regular audits of resources.
  • Lead on stock control, compiling orders, and liaising or negotiating with suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement.
