Position Overview

The Undergraduate Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program at the Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for a pool of adjunct faculty at the rank of Adjunct Instructor. This role involves teaching undergraduate courses focused on various aspects of social work including Field Education, Practice, Human Behavior, Policy, and Research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct all scheduled classes and maintain designated office hours.
  • Prepare course syllabi in accordance with institutional guidelines.
  • Distribute syllabi to students on the first day of class, ensuring clarity and accessibility.
  • Adhere to the course syllabi throughout the semester.
  • Develop and assess measurable learning outcomes for courses to ensure alignment with the curriculum.
  • Support student development and academic success through mentoring, tutoring, and engagement in service learning activities.
  • Maintain accurate student records and grades, ensuring compliance with privacy standards.
  • Engage in curriculum review and program assessment, participating in faculty meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Social Work is required; a Social Work license is preferred.
  • Substantial experience in teaching or supervising social work practice methods.
  • Strong knowledge of educational theories and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology and resources to enhance course delivery.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, suitable for diverse audiences.
  • Experience equating to over three years of full-time teaching in core curriculum areas at an accredited School of Social Work.
